“I started working with coach Horn when I joined the Carolina JR Hurricanes Junior Program for the 2012-13 season. Coach Horn helped me define my game both on and off the ice helping me along the way to becoming a NCAA collegiate goaltender. Whether it be something in your game that is a simple fix or something to work on over time coach Horn is going to do whatever it takes to help you reach your maximum potential!”

“I have been training with Horn Goaltending and Bill Horn throughout my entire 10-12ish year goaltending career. Working with Bill, I have been able to learn many useful tools on playing and preparing for games. There are lots of resources he provides on and off the ice that allow you to be the best you can be. I achieved my dream of playing junior hockey for four years and I couldn’t have done it without Bill Horn and his goaltending program. I was and currently am a frequent participant in his small groups sessions and summer clinics/camps, which I still enjoy doing the same as I did when I was 8 years old. I now help with coaching on the occasion at camps and clinics and see the goaltenders he is growing in North Carolina. It truly is the best way to improve your game in North Carolina.”

“Bill believed in my ability as a goaltender when many other coaches didn’t. Starting late meant I had a lot of catching up to do, but Bill consistently worked with me to help me reach a level where I could play at the club collegiate level after only playing for 5 years.”

I’ve worked with Bill Horn for over eight years and working with him has helped me progress to the next level through my youth hockey career. His extra help off the ice with gear and mental prep is also very helpful. He is always willing to help and focuses on your personal needs during lessons.

“Coach Horn is one of the best if not the best goalie coach in the area. He has helped improve my speed and muscle memory that is applied in games. HG’s Small Group Sessions is one of the best ways to improve your game. “

AJ Smith

“It is a lot of fun and no matter if you are attending a camp or SGS Coach Bill works on every aspect of your game from the mental side to every little on ice detail. “

“Coach Horn is good with the younger kids. He knows how to assess the strengths and weaknesses and put them through drills to teach good habits.”

“Having two young goalies in a family can be draining ; emotionally , mentally and sometimes financially. Giving them tools to help them succeed in the game they love so much is very important . Having a Goalie Coach that recognizes each goalies’ different challenges , strengths and weaknesses is important . Having a coach that pushes them to be the best that they can be is very important . Having a coach that the goalies respect and love learning from is so important as well . Horn Goaltending is all of this . The boys love playing hockey , they see what can come of it if you work really hard . As a parent , I want my boys to grow up to be great people , to be caring , smart , and respectful . It takes a village to raise kids , Coach Horn teaches the boys things I could never teach them . Whether or not they play elite hockey , college or Beer League, I want them to enjoy playing , to learn important life lessons , and love the game no matter what . Maybe one day, they can return the favor and become goalie coaches to help kids reach their potential as well.”

“We wanted our son to learn to skate. He had other plans. Those skating lessons were on the ice with learn to play hockey. His choices for his first jersey were 30, 3, or 0. We went for #3 and prayed for a passing phase. One weekend the rotating goalie position for his Mites team gave him the chance he wanted. He got a lot of shots and his team lost. We were hopeful. We asked, “So do you still want to be a goalie”? His response sealed our fate, “Yeah! That was fun”!

We bought the first set of pads, and heard from many others that Bill Horn was great with young kids that wanted to be goalies. We’ve been with Bill every step of the way. About halfway through Grant’s first season of Squirts we figured out that Bill spoke the language of goalies. Even if we could, our parental role interfered with Grant’s ability to listen. But that was ok because we had already figured out that he was in good hands. And fewer voices in his head telling him how to play the puck was definitely better (because we didn’t have a clue)! We also learned that as an experienced goalie, parent, first responder (he’s also a firefighter), and Coach, Bill has an innate perspective that enables him to remain calm…we had a lot to learn.

In all the years he has worked with Grant, Bill has never criticized him, never doubted him, never reprimanded him. He just creates drills to build strengths and mitigate weaknesses. Bill Horn set the bar that showed us how to support our goalie and what qualities and character to look for in a Coach for our son. They say it takes a village, and we trust Bill to be one of the most influential people in Grant’s life outside of family. We have gotten calls from Bill who was at home watching his game online. Grant has also asked to call Bill to chat on weekends when the games have been difficult. Both goalie and parent have benefited from his support many times.

As a coach and parent, Bill has also been invaluable as the teenage years hit. His program and camps teach athletes how to care for themselves with proper sleep, hydration, diet and personal hygiene. Trust us, those cute little goalies smell when they get older! The biggest testament to Bill as a coach came directly from Grant last year as we considered schools out of state. Many do not have goalie coaches on staff. Grant said, “I didn’t realize what an advantage I have working so closely with Bill. No one is going to be able to offer that”. We reassured him that Bill will continue to be part of his path forward. As parents we have enabled Grant to pursue a passion. As a Coach Bill has helped Grant develop a foundation of skills that are translating into opportunities for a future to discover his maximum potential.
